About the Retreat

Step into a week of creative indulgence at the stunning Tudor-and-Medieval manor of Court House Farm, nestled in the charming village of Portishead. Situated in the walled gardens of this historic site, this retreat invites you to slow down, reconnect with your love of fabric and design and be inspired by a beautiful setting.
For four full days of stitching, camaraderie and creative refreshment, you’ll be immersed in a supportive atmosphere where your project evolves, your skills are honed and your creative senses awakened.

What You’ll Learn / Creative Element

Hosted by expert tutors, you will receive dedicated tuition and access to a retreat-kit of fabrics and materials designed especially for this event at Court House Farm. Whether you’re refining your precision piecing, mastering hand-appliqué, exploring rich colour palettes or simply enjoying quiet time to stitch, this retreat offers:

  • Guided workshops tailored for more confident makers looking to refine and elevate their work

  • The kit included will provide you with curated fabrics, instructions and templates to begin a special project created just for this venue

  • Ample open-studio time to work, ask questions and benefit from individual attention

  • The space to share ideas with fellow makers, gain inspiration and leave the retreat with a finished top or a well-advanced project

About Court House Farm

Set in the conservation area of coastal town: Portishead, Court House Farm is a beautiful historic manor that combines character, comfort and inspiring surroundings. With stone walls, timber beams, inglenook fireplaces and a private walled garden, it’s the perfect backdrop for a creative escape. The generous entertaining and gathering areas, calm outdoor grounds and well-equipped accommodation mean you can immerse yourself in the stitching days and then wander into relaxing evenings in style. As the hosts say, it’s “an incredible Medieval & Tudor Manor house … beams and inglenook fireplaces, a beautiful English garden surrounded by ancient stone walls”.  All this with the peace of village life and easy access to local amenities — a beautiful place to retreat, stitch and recharge.

About Curated Quilt Retreats – Judy & Margaret

Curated Quilt Retreats is the creative partnership of Judy Newman and Margaret Mew, two highly-regarded quilters, teachers and designers whose retreats are known for elegance, inspiration and hands-on skill development.

  • Judy Newman (Melbourne-based) is a designer, teacher and author who has been creating quilt patterns and tutoring for many years. Her aesthetic is timeless and refined, and she brings generous teaching energy and deep passion to the craft. 

  • Margaret Mew is well-known for her mastery of reproduction-style fabrics, hand-piecing and appliqué. She has a deep understanding of antique textiles, and brings her teaching focus to slow stitching, rich fabrics and thoughtful design. 

     Together, Judy and Margaret curate retreats that offer more than just technique: you’ll leave enriched by their creative insights, inspired by their work, and supported in your quilting journey. Their previous retreats have taken place in beautiful venues in Australia, France and the UK. We are excited to co- host with them at Court House Farm.
